오늘도 어제 말씀과 같이 계속해서 애굽에 대한 심판과 주위 여러 나라들에 대한 심판의 말씀이다. 17절은 “열두째 해 어느 달 열다섯째 날에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되”라고 되어 있는데 ‘어느 달’은 영번역 성경에서 ‘of the month’로 되어 있다. 1절이 ‘12년 12월 1일’이라고 되어 있으니 17절은 ‘12년 12월 15일’이 된다. 보름이 지나서야 하나님의 말씀이 다시 임한다. 하지만 큐티를 하는 신약 시대에는 언제든 영 안에서 하나님의 말씀이 임하신다. 그 말씀을 듣고 기억하며 순종하는 문제만 남는다.

19절은 “이르라 너의 아름다움이 어떤 사람들보다도 뛰어나도다 너는 내려가서 할례를 받지 아니한 자와 함께 누울지어다” 라고 되어 있는데, 다른 여러 번역에는 ‘너의 아름다움이 다른 이들보다 뛰어나겠느냐?’라고 되어 있다. 즉 무덤으로 들어가는 모습 앞에 이제는 그 예전의 영광과 아름다움은 모두 사라졌다. 인생이 아무리 잘났어도 그 결말은 무덤이다. 그리고 심판이다. 임백호가 황진이의 무덤 앞에서 시를 읊은 것이 생각난다.

계속해서 ‘할례받지 못한 자들’이 심판당하고 죽는 것에 대한 말씀이 나오는데, 마치 할례받지 못했기 때문에 심판당하고 죽었다는 말씀처럼 들린다. 그런데 사실 그렇다. 할례는 자신 혹은 자아를 처리하는 예표였다. 그래서 홍해를 건넌 것이 침례를 받은 것으로 간주된 것 처럼, 구약 시대의 할례는 자신의 표피를 베어버림으로 죽임당하고 처리된다는 예표였다. 그렇기 때문에 십자가와 연결된다. 유월절 문설주에 양피를 바른 것 역시 죽음을 의미했다. 이 집 안에 있는 이들은 이미 죽임을 당했으니 ‘건너 뛰어라’ 라는 의미였다. 육신의 죽음을 선포하는 행위였다.

그래서 주님의 십자가를 통해 믿음 안에서 나는 그의 죽으심에 연합했고, 동시에 심판이 지나갔으며 (혹 이미 받았으며), 그의 부활과 또한 연합할 것이다 (롬 6:5). 죽지 않으면 결국 죽임 당한다.

주님, 인생의 결국은 무덤인 것을 압니다. 하지만 믿음 안에서 저는 주님과 함께 죽었음을 배웁니다. 이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니라고 말씀하셨지만 아직도 내가 살아보려고 바둥거립니다. 믿음으로 이미 할례받고 강 건너고 나무에 달렸으며 장사지내졌음을 보게 하소서. 무덤이 결말인 인생에 미련두지 말게 하시고, 주님과의 동행으로 이끄소서.

If not dead, (one) will be put to death. (Ezekiel 32:17-32)

Today’s Bible verses continue as the Lord condemns Egypt and surrounding nations. Two weeks have passed since the Lord spoke ‘in the twelfth year, in the twelfth [month,] on the first of the month (verse 1),’ as verse 17 says ‘15th day of the month.’ Those who live in this age of grace, however, do not have to wait for two weeks for Lord's speaking. Through QT, we can hear God’s voice at any time in spirit. Hearing the Word, just remembering and obeying Him remain.

Verse 19 says, “Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and make your bed with the uncircumcised.” All of splendor during one's lifetime fades away as it reaches the tomb. One may boast his/her life, but it eventually ends up at the tomb.

The judgment of ‘the uncircumcised’ is repeatedly mentioned. It sounds like Egypt and the surrounding nations have been judged just because they are uncircumcised. And it is true. Circumcision is a sign typifying ending of or dealing with one's self. As Israelite crossing the red sea is portrayed as being baptized, circumcision in the Old Testament meant self-death by cutting off one’s skin. Due to this reason, it relates to the cross.

The ‘Passover’ had the similar meaning. Putting the blood of the lamb on the sides and tops of the door frames of the houses on Passover was a sign saying, ‘people in this house have already been judged and put to death, so pass over!’ It was a proclamation of the death of the flesh.

If not dead, I will be put to death. Therefore, in faith, I am united to the death of the Lord through His cross. Lord's judgement over me has now passed me over. I will also be united to His resurrection (Rom 6:5).

Lord Jesus, I know human life eventually ends in the grave. But I have been put to death with you in faith. However, although it is written, ‘It is no longer I,’ yet I strive to survive. Cause me to see that I have been circumcised in the heart, crossed the river, hanged on the tree, and been buried together with you. Help me not put my hope in this life, knowing it ends at the grave. Draw me to walk with you.
